Apple has issued a free update for WaveBurner, a Logic Studio application that lets you assemble, master, and burn audio CDs using a SuperDrive or CD burner supported by Mac OS X. You can also export DDP files using WaveBurner, while audio CDs created with WaveBurner can be played back on any audio CD player, and can be used as pre-masters for mass production. WaveBurner 1.6 is part of the paid upgrade to Logic Studio.
Talking about the WaveBurner 1.6.1 Update, Apple reveals on the Support / Downloads area of its website that the update improves stability and provides numerous fixes. According to the Mac maker, the key changes include the proper saving of mastering notes and more consistent rendering of waveform display in the Mix Lane. The update is recommended for all users of WaveBurner 1.6, according to the Apple website.
On a more detailed note (WaveBurner 1.6.1 release notes), Apple reveals that the update resolves an issue where mastering notes were not saved with WaveBurner documents, and a fix for WaveBurner to no longer quit unexpectedly if Auto Render is running when a disc is burned. Changes to the settings in AudioUnit plug-ins are now reliably maintained, and it is now possible to enter a 12-digit UPC/EAN code, according to Support document TS3069. I'm a big fan of eMagic's WaveBurner Pro v.2.2.1 for Mac OS9. The ease of editing & the sound of POW-r dither is in a word. I've used it on around a thousand CD projects in the last 3 years.

- WaveBurner features an intuitive layout with large waveform viewers. Advanced editing and navigation tools. Separate region, track, and plug-in panes. And now graphic parameter automation. What's new in this version: Resolves an issue where Mastering Notes were not saved with WaveBurner documents. WaveBurner no longer quits unexpectedly if Auto Render is running when a disc is burned.
- Emagic's Waveburner Pro is just such a thing. It's a Mac only application that is used for compiling and burning CD's to the Red book standard which can then be used as production masters.
- WaveBurner is the often overlooked CD Mastering utility that comes with Logic Studio. It's a great app for making Audio CDs, but that doesn't mean it's easy to use. In this new tutorial by J.F. Brissette, you'll learn how to properly compile and output your Audio CDs.
According to more documentation found over at Apple’s website, users can add up to the maximum of 99 tracks and 99 subindexes per track allowable by the Red Book standard. This includes ISRC codes for each track, setting the copy protection and pre-emphasis flags for each track, and adding the UPC/EAN codes for the CD. WaveBurner supports all Red Book options for CD audio data storage, while the CD Text standard is also supported.
